Stainless Steel Cockpit Cover Pins for Boats
Cockpit cover pins are stainless steel pin-and-ring fasteners that attach a boat's canvas cover to the rub rail, keeping the cover tight, flat, and secure at the dock, on the trailer, and at cruising speed.
These pins are made from 316 marine-grade stainless steel with a 1" ring and a 1-1/2" pin, built to handle saltwater, sun, and the loads that stretch a cover at highway speed or in a storm.
A boat cover is only as good as what holds it down. A loose cover flaps, chafes the canvas, and lets water and debris in. These pins give you a rattle-free hold that keeps your cover working the way it was built to, and the clean polished finish looks right on anything from a weekend bay boat to a high-end sportfish.
Why these pins matter
- 316 marine-grade stainless steel construction
- Resists rust and corrosion in saltwater environments
- 1" ring with a 1-1/2" pin for a snug, secure fit
- Keeps covers tight during high-speed cruising and trailering
- Holds up in wind, rain, and rough weather
- No tools required to install
- Polished finish that looks good on any boat
-
Where they work best
- Cockpit covers
- Full boat covers
- Custom canvas covers
- Center console covers
- Any marine cover that uses a pin-and-ring fastening system
If your cover uses snaps, twist locks, or bungees instead, these won't be compatible. Not sure what you have? Send us a photo and we'll tell you.
Installation tips
Start at the middle of your rub rail and work outward toward the corners. This lets you stretch the cover evenly toward the rear of the boat for a tight, wrinkle-free fit.
Even tension is the secret to a cover that lasts. Uneven pull points wear out canvas faster and leave gaps where water and debris get in.

We've been building custom canvas and marine covers in Riviera Beach, Florida since 1985. Every piece of hardware we sell is the same hardware our 30+ specialists install on covers in our own 35,000 sq ft facility. If it doesn't survive South Florida sun and salt, we don't stock it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are cockpit cover pins used for? Cockpit cover pins attach your boat's canvas or cockpit cover to the rub rail, keeping the cover tight and secure. They're the anchor points that hold everything in place at the dock, on the trailer, and underway. Each pin pairs with a ring sewn or grommeted into the cover.
Will these pins handle saltwater? Yes. These pins are 316 marine-grade stainless steel, the standard for saltwater hardware. 316 contains molybdenum, which gives it stronger corrosion resistance than the 304 stainless used in most general-purpose hardware. A fresh water rinse after saltwater trips keeps them looking new.
How many pins do I need for my boat cover? It depends on boat size and cover design. A typical cockpit cover uses 6 to 20 pins, spaced 12 to 18 inches apart along the rub rail. If you're replacing existing pins, match the count you had before. Pins are sold individually, so you can buy exactly what you need.
How do I install cockpit cover pins? Start at the center of your rub rail and work outward to the corners, stretching the cover toward the rear of the boat as you go. This keeps tension even and gives you a tight, wrinkle-free fit. No tools are required.
Can I use these pins on any boat cover? They work with any canvas cover designed for a pin-and-ring fastening system. If your cover uses snaps, twist locks, or bungee cords, these pins won't be compatible. Check your existing attachment points before ordering, or send us a photo and we'll confirm.
Will these pins fit my rub rail? The 1-1/2" pin length fits most standard marine rub rails. If your rub rail is unusually thick, measure the depth before ordering. The 1" x 3/16" ring works with standard cover grommets and sewn-in ring pockets.
How long do stainless cover pins last? With basic care, 316 stainless cover pins can last the lifetime of your boat. Rinse them with fresh water after saltwater use and inspect them once a season for wear at the contact points. Unlike zinc-plated hardware, they won't rust through or stain your canvas.
