Start with the space

A different opening.
A different requirement.

A salon window, a sleeping cabin and a small portlight don’t need the same treatment. Start with how you use each space, then choose the style, coverage and controls.

Salon blinds & shades

Explore roller, cellular and other shade styles for the windows around your seating and dining areas. Balance your preferred view with daytime light control and privacy.

Bring to the discussion
Window dimensions, trim depth and space for the treatment when it’s open.

Stateroom privacy

Tell us how dark you want the cabin for sleeping and how you use it at night. Review the fabric and coverage together, including the edges around each opening.

Bring to the discussion
Light around the perimeter, nearby furnishings and access to the controls.

Portlight closures

Consider fitted CloZures shutters for small openings where hanging curtains or a conventional blind may be awkward. The shape and usable glass area guide the fit.

Style references for your consultation. Product availability and suitability are confirmed for each boat.

Style is only part of the choice

Choose the light.
Then choose the finish.

Use roller, cellular honeycomb, Roman, sheer, woven wood and vertical styles as a starting point. Compare samples alongside your cabin’s upholstery, woodwork and headliner.

Daytime light
How much light and outward view would you like to keep when the treatment is in use?
Nighttime privacy
How private does the room need to feel when the cabin lights are on?
Sleeping comfort
Discuss room-darkening options and the coverage around the full opening.
Daily operation
Ask about manual and electric options. The system, controls and installation requirements need to suit your boat.

A closer look at portlights

Privacy for the
smaller openings.

CloZures are portlight shutters for controlling light and privacy. Review the glass shape, frame clearance and opening hardware to decide whether this approach fits your cabin.

Small details matter to the fit.

Send one photograph of the full opening and another showing the frame and hardware. Include the number of portlights, their approximate dimensions and whether they open.

We can then discuss the coverage and mounting approach for each location. Confirm access for operating and cleaning the window as part of the plan.

Plan the details early

From window photos
to a clear project brief.

A few useful details make the first conversation more productive. Identify the openings, explain what you want to change and share your boat’s location.

  1. Show the space

Share the boat make, model and year, plus photos of the windows, existing treatments and nearby trim.

  2. Review the fit

Discuss opening sizes, mounting space, hardware clearance and how you’ll reach the controls.

  3. Choose the details

Compare style, fabric, privacy needs and operation. Review the options alongside the rest of the cabin.

  4. Confirm the plan

Agree on the scope, product availability, measuring and fitting arrangements, quotation and schedule.

Before you choose

Boat window
treatment questions.

Start with the way the cabin is used. These are the details to settle before choosing a product or placing an order.

What types of window treatments can I discuss?

Discuss salon and cabin blinds, roller and cellular shades, and CloZures portlight shutters. Canvas Designers also accepts inquiries about electric shades, blinds and curtains. The exact product and installation approach are confirmed for your boat.

Do you work with Hunter Douglas and Oceanair?

Hunter Douglas and Oceanair Marine Blinds are included in our window-treatment offering. Ask the team which current products, fabrics and operating options suit your opening sizes and cabin requirements.

Can I request room-darkening treatments?

Yes. Tell us how dark you want the space for sleeping. Review the selected material, coverage and gaps around the opening together. A product’s fabric specification alone doesn’t describe every part of the finished installation.

What are CloZures portlight shutters?

CloZures are fitted shutters for portlight light and privacy control. They’re an option to discuss when there’s limited room for hanging curtains or shades. Share the opening shape, dimensions and hardware details so the fit can be reviewed.

Can my existing blinds simply be replaced?

Send photographs of the existing blind, brackets and surrounding trim, along with the product label if you have it. Replacement choices depend on the opening, mounting space and available systems. Confirm the scope before removing the existing treatment.

What affects the price and lead time?

The number and size of openings, chosen products, fabrics, operating systems, mounting work and boat access all affect the quotation. Availability and the agreed work schedule also matter. Include your requested date with the inquiry.
